What Does It Mean to Feel Unseen as an LGBTQIA+ Individual?
Living as part of the LGBTQIA+ community comes with strength and resilience—but it can also bring unique challenges. Maybe you’re navigating questions around identity, coming out, or self-acceptance. Perhaps you’ve experienced rejection, misunderstanding, or discrimination that left lasting wounds. Or maybe you’re simply looking for a space where you don’t have to explain yourself—where you’re fully seen, affirmed, and supported.
According to The Trevor Project, LGBTQIA+ individuals are more than twice as likely to experience depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts compared to their peers. But with affirming therapy, the risk drops significantly. At Creative Continuum, we provide safe, inclusive care that honors who you are—without judgment, without conditions.
Why Do People Seek LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy?
Therapy for LGBTQIA+ individuals isn’t about changing you—it’s about supporting you in becoming more fully yourself. Affirming therapy creates a space where your identity is respected, your voice is valued, and your experiences are understood.
Whether you’re exploring gender identity, processing trauma, healing from rejection, or simply wanting someone to walk alongside you, affirming therapy meets you where you are. We also recognize that creative tools like art therapy often provide additional outlets for expression, especially when words feel limited or heavy.
Through creativity, LGBTQIA+ individuals discover safe ways to process emotions and express identity fully.
Maybe you’ve thought: “I should be over this by now” or “No one will ever really understand.” But you don’t have to keep carrying that weight by yourself. Therapy can help you release shame, build resilience, and reconnect with pride in who you are.
Even if you’re unsure whether therapy is “necessary,” these are common reasons LGBTQIA+ individuals seek support at Creative Continuum:
Anxiety, depression, or stress connected to identity and lived experience
Struggles with self-acceptance, belonging, or authenticity
Healing from discrimination, bullying, or rejection
Navigating coming out or gender transition
Building healthier relationships and boundaries
Processing grief, loss, or past trauma
Seeking an affirming space where identity isn’t questioned
You Don’t Have to Keep Carrying This Alone
How LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy Works
1. Intake
Your journey begins with an initial conversation focused on understanding your needs, goals, and what brings you to therapy. This step helps ensure care is affirming, respectful, and aligned with your lived experience and identity.
2. Assessment
Together, we explore emotional patterns, stressors, identity-related concerns, and life experiences that may be impacting your well-being. This collaborative process helps clarify focus areas while honoring your pace and comfort.
3. Treatment
Ongoing sessions use affirming, evidence-based approaches—often incorporating creative tools like art therapy when helpful—to support emotional processing, self-acceptance, resilience, and meaningful change.
4. Integration
Insights gained in therapy are gradually integrated into daily life. This phase focuses on strengthening coping skills, deepening self-understanding, and building confidence in expressing your authentic self.
5. Follow-Up
As goals evolve, therapy may shift toward maintenance, continued growth, or support during new transitions. Care remains flexible, affirming, and responsive to your needs over time.

Insurance and Payment Information
Creative Continuum is a private-pay practice, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. Payment is due at the time of your session so we can keep your care simple, flexible, and focused on you, not insurance rules.
-
Private pay means you work directly with us for services instead of billing insurance first.
This allows us to tailor sessions to your goals, pace, and learning style. That may include art therapy, parent support, emotional regulation work, or deeper relational care. Private pay also means fewer barriers, more transparency, and more room for creativity in how therapy looks and feels.
We also support out-of-network benefits. Many insurance plans still want you to see the provider you choose, which often includes deductibles and partial reimbursements for out-of-network care.
-
Yes, many clients do.
If your insurance includes out-of-network coverage, we can provide a superbill after each session. A superbill is a detailed receipt you submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Your insurer then decides what portion they return to you based on your plan and deductible. We also partner with Mentaya to help clients estimate and use their out-of-network benefits more easily.
We are also working toward being able to bill out-of-network benefits directly for clients to make the process even simpler.
-
Yes. Creative Continuum is an ESA vendor in Arizona.
Families using Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) funding may be able to apply funds toward therapy services. If you are using ESA, we can talk through how it works, what paperwork is needed, and how to get started.
We also help families determine eligibility, apply for benefits, and establish funding when possible so the process feels less overwhelming.
-
Insurance often comes with a lot of restrictions. They may require specific diagnoses, limit how often you can come, and control how long sessions can be. Most plans only allow 45 to 50 minute sessions, even when a full 60 minutes would better support your nervous system, processing, and care. Insurance companies also ask for personal details that do not always align with creative, relational, and neurodivergent affirming therapy.
By staying independent, we protect your privacy and keep therapy personalized. Your sessions follow your needs and goals instead of an insurance company’s checklist.
-
We believe in being clear without making things complicated.
Our typical session fees range from $175 to $225, depending on the provider and type of service. We are always happy to walk you through pricing during your consultation so there are no surprises.
Beginning in May, we will also offer lower cost sessions with our intern Joy at $100 per session, creating more accessible options for families and individuals seeking care.
-
We offer a limited number of sliding scale spots when availability allows. These are reserved for families with financial need and are not guaranteed.
At the same time, we truly want clients to receive the services that fit them best. We are always open to exploring financial flexibility, payment plans, or realistic options when cost feels stressful. You are welcome to ask about availability during your consultation so we can talk through what may work.
